It is a rare and beautiful thing to see a band with members so suited to one another.  Jesse Anderson Ainslie, Phosphorescent’s guitarist at the moment, gave perfect partnership to the band at the Larimer Lounge on 13 April.  To first hear Houck’s voice, cresting and descending from the heights of joy to the most maudlin murmurs, is like being enveloped by hot prairie – lonesome and embraced at the same time.  Ainslie’s playing perfectly matched Houck’s hesitations and prosody.  Phosphorescent was joined by Ms. Erin Roberts of Porlolo, who opened the evening, on trumpet.  The Family Band, endlessly cool and haunting simultaneously, gave me that special crystals-and-patchouli tingle that I secretly can’t get enough of.  Go Denver.
