Columbus has ravines. Moist, verdant, mossy, our walk this morning smelled like earth. It is so very wet here. I remember moving to the Midwest from Colorado when I was in junior high, and being amazed that we were allowed to shoot bottle rockets into the woods behind our house. In Colorado it would be easy to start a huge fire that way.
It rained from Columbus across Ohio, through West Virginia, into a tip of Maryland, all the way to Fredericksburg, where we received a warm welcome. I knew every raindrop by its name.
