Coney Island is a strange wonderland on any day. Yesterday the morning was cold gray and the boardwalk was eerie and still. Nothing was open, except one tourist shop and Nathan’s, where we had greasy fries with mustard for lunch. Woody Guthrie, I wish we could travel back and see Mermaid Avenue as you did.

We spent nine hours driving from NYC to Saranac Lake, going so slow in city traffic, then so slow in heavy, wet snow. This morning I woke up to see why it was well worth our patience.

Thank you for these pictures of Coney Island; it is great in summer when it is crowded and hot, but even so much greater on a cold, grey closed-down day.
