WaterCourse Foods is Denver’s beloved vegetarian oasis, and it has been an influential and special part of my world here.  I serendipitously got my first serving job at WaterCourse right after college, and there I met great friends, learned many unexpected lessons, and made some cash to support a  major music/travel habit.  The place has changed a lot since I worked there; WaterCourse moved a few blocks northeast, City O’ City took it’s place in the old building, and the Deer Pile, a multi-purpose venue, is now open in the space above City O’.  William thought the Deer Pile would be a stellar place to have a literary fiesta to celebrate the release of the e-book for The Homeland Of Pure Joy through maybeparade press.  Owner Dan Landes is a man of many talents, and was kind enough to host the gala and share some of his poetry before William read, Andrew Orvedahl had everyone spewing beer out of their noses, Josh Wambeke (of the Morning Clouds) made his guitar gently weep, and Ross Etherton and Steven Lee Lawson got their stomp going.  It was a wonderful showcase Denver’s own talented residents, all to the backdrop of spooning (or something more romantic) deer.
