Duncan and Robert Sarkies’ film ‘Scarfies‘ was playing on the flight from the USA that brought us to Auckland just three weeks ago, and it was a dark and twisted little gem. The characters are university student-types, or university student-lurker types, living in Dunedin. They squat in an (apparently) abandoned house, and create a makeshift home/party place/venue amidst the rubble, much like my beloved friends’ places (ehem, Yellow Bordello and Pancho’s Villa holla) a few years back. The characters are constantly bundled up in bulky sweaters (it was the 90’s after all), knit caps, and scarves, because, well, it’s really really cold.
I had a bit of time to finish up a knitting project begun in Colorado. The weather here in Wellington is much better suited for wooly things in general, and it’s being put to good use already, by its handsome recipient.
